My thoughts on the San Francisco Art Institute, de Young Museum, Mission District Murals, and Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts follow at:

http://winstoninwonderlandart.blogspot.com/2008/09/san-franciscos-art-scene.htmlRahul Medirattahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07421213921061798142noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-924705577830208404.post-730310561318386022008-08-02T21:01:00.000-07:002008-08-02T21:01:00.000-07:00The discussion was interesting although the questi...The discussion was interesting although the questions were far too broad to be dealt with in an hour, much less a year - or, in some cases, a lifetime. The whole thing was taped and I hope that a link will be up on the YB website later. One comment which stayed with me is how difficult it is for artists to connect with each other. We lack the cafe society of Paris, the bars of NY in the 50's or even the cafes and poetry reading spaces of SF in the 50's and 60's. Another discussion centered around connecting to community but, for me, that's vague. What community? How connected and in what way? The young were enthusiastic as they often are; others, somewhat older and knowing themselves on the outside with no way in, were less optimistic but too polite to say so.Nancy Ewarthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12116290968007398337noreply@blogger.com
